HEAVENLY HOT DOG SAUCE
This is my family's favorite hotdog sauce. It originates from West Virginia. We like it with a bite, but you can adjust it to your taste. We top the hotdogs with ketchup, mustard, the hotdog sauce, and finally some chopped onions...YUM! This recipe makes enough for freezing and using later.

MOM'S SPICY HOT DOG SAUCE (CROCK POT)
My mother-in-law gave me this recipe. We absolutely love it! I cook it for several hours in the crock pot, and I usually double or even triple it, because my family loves having the leftovers!

Steps:
- Combine all ingredients in your crock pot.
- Allow to cook at least 8 hours on low (in the older Crockpots -- the newer ones sometimes seem to cook too high). I usually cook mine overnight, then even allow it to cook part of the day before turning it to warm.
- ***It can also be cooked on the stove, if you need it to get done sooner. In this case, you may want to leave the water out.
- Enjoy on hot dogs (or "saucedogs" for my daughter who doesn't like hotdogs, and only eats sauce on a bun LOL) or use as a sloppy joe filling!

Steps:
- In a large sauce pan brown onion in the oil. Add spicy v-8 (half of the bottle to start), raw hamburger, Italian seasoning, and garlic. Mash ingredients together with a potato masher and cook stirring consistently on medium high heat until hamburger turns brown. Turn heat down to simmer and simmer for 45 minutes (or longer depending on your time). Add more v-8 depending on your desired consistency throughout the cooking process. I usually end up using nearly the entire bottle allowing my sauce to continue to simmer for an hour and a half.

Tips:
- Use ripe tomatoes: The riper the tomatoes, the sweeter and more flavorful the sauce will be.
- Roast the tomatoes: Roasting the tomatoes concentrates their flavor and adds a smoky depth to the sauce.
- Use a variety of peppers: Different peppers will give the sauce different levels of heat and flavor. For a milder sauce, use sweet peppers. For a spicier sauce, use hotter peppers.
- Add some acidity: A little bit of acidity will help to balance out the sweetness of the tomatoes and peppers. You can add acidity with lemon juice, vinegar, or even a splash of white wine.
- Simmer the sauce for a while: Simmering the sauce allows the flavors to meld together and develop.
- Taste the sauce as you go: Adjust the seasonings to your liking.
Conclusion:
Mom's Hot Dog Sauce is a delicious and versatile sauce that can be used on hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, or even vegetables. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy sauce to add some flavor to your meal, give Mom's Hot Dog Sauce a try. You won't be disappointed!
