TIM'S SAUSAGE BURGERS

Tim's Sausage Burgers image

My husband came up with the combination while he was still single...and he hates to cook! If you love hamburgers and Italian sausage, this will be a winner with you :) Great on the BBQ and a bit leaner than just sausage alone. This recipe makes a lot, but I freeze half before cooking so they are always handy for grilling.

Time 25m

Yield 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 lbs ground beef (the leaner the better)
2 lbs Italian sausage (sweet or hot or both)
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • If you cannot get bulk sausage, then squeeze the sausage out of the casing and discard casing.
  • Mix all ingredients until well combined.
  • Shape into patties.
  • I make mine very thin and about 1" wider than a hamburger bun, because they shrink up and get thicker while cooking.
  • BBQ grill or fry until juices run clear.
  • Serve on your favorite buns or rolls.
  • ENJOY!

Time 30m

Yield 5

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (16 ounce) package bulk hot pork sausage
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
5 hamburger buns, split
5 eggs
15 dill pickle slices
5 slices pepperjack cheese
1 small red onion, sliced
10 pickled jalapeno slices

Steps:

  • Form the bulk hot pork sausage into 5 patties. Heat a large skillet, and fry the patties over medium high heat. Remove the sausage from the skillet and drain on paper towels.
  • Melt butter in a second large skillet, and toast the buns over medium heat until golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, break the eggs into the same skillet used for frying the sausage; reduce the heat to medium-low. Cook until the white is completely set and the yolk thickens. Flip the eggs and continue cooking for another 30 seconds, or until the yolk is to the diners' preferences.
  • Stack your toasted buns starting with the pickles and jalapeno slices on the bottom, then the cooked sausage patty, pepperjack cheese, fried egg, and onion. Cover with the top half of the bun. Enjoy as the cheese melts between the egg and the sausage.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality sausage: The better the sausage, the better the burgers will be. Look for sausage made with fresh, flavorful meat and spices.
  • Don't overmix the meat: Overmixing can make the burgers tough. Mix the meat just until it is combined.
  • Shape the burgers gently: Don't press down on the burgers too hard, or they will be dense and dry. Just gently shape them into patties.
  • Cook the burgers over medium heat: This will help prevent them from burning on the outside and staying raw on the inside.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness: For medium-rare burgers, cook to an internal temperature of 135 degrees Fahrenheit. For medium burgers, cook to an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit. For well-done burgers, cook to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Conclusion:

Sausage burgers are a delicious and easy-to-make meal. With a few simple tips, you can make sure your sausage burgers are juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. So next time you're looking for a quick and tasty meal, give sausage burgers a try!
