MOTHER GOOSE POPCORN

It doesn't sound like much but I prefer this as an alternative to caramel corn, it is that good. I make it at Christmas time, pink and green and mix them together. Simple to make, sweet and crunchy. Colorful to boot! It goes fast. As far as I know this is an old recipe from long ago.

Time 30m

Yield 8 cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 lb powdered sugar
1 cup water
2 tablespoons butter
food coloring, add to desired color
8 cups popped popcorn

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients except popcorn in sauce pan and cook until it reaches the soft ball stage.
  • Pour over popcorn and stir until well coated.

Tips:

  • Choose the right popcorn kernels: Look for non-GMO, organic kernels that are free of hulls and debris. Fresh kernels will produce the best results.
  • Use the right amount of oil: A little oil helps the kernels pop evenly, but too much can make the popcorn greasy. A good rule of thumb is 1 tablespoon of oil per 1/2 cup of kernels.
  • Heat the oil over medium-high heat: This will help the kernels pop quickly and evenly.
  • Add the kernels to the hot oil: Be careful not to overcrowd the pot, or the kernels won't pop properly.
  • Cover the pot and shake it frequently: This will help distribute the heat and prevent the popcorn from burning.
  • Listen for the popping to slow down: Once the popping slows to a few seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat.
  • Pour the popcorn into a large bowl: Add your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Conclusion:

Making popcorn at home is a quick, easy, and affordable snack that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a little practice, you'll be able to make perfect popcorn every time. So next time you're craving a crunchy snack, reach for some popcorn kernels and give it a try!
