Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 7

5 c apples, skinned and sliced
1/3 c water
1 c granulated sugar
3/4 c all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon (I use more because I love cinnamon)
1/4 tsp salt
1 stick butter, cut into small slices

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350 and butter a baking dish. (For this recipe I stick to the butter but you can use something else to grease pan if you prefer.)
  • 2. Put apples in dish and spread out. Sprinkle apples with water.
  • 3. Put flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Add butter to this with your fingers rubbing till it all resembles a coarse crumby mixture.
  • 4. Spread this over the apples in the dish.
  • 5. Bake for about 30 minutes. Just until the crust is browned nicely.

Tips:

  • Choose a blend of apples. Using multiple types of apples with different flavors and textures (like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, and Braeburn) creates a more complex and interesting apple crisp.
  • Slice your apples thinly and evenly. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Don't over-mix the crisp topping. The streusel topping should be coarse and crumbly, not doughy.
  • Bake the crisp until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling. The crisp should be set in the center and the apples should be tender.
  • Let the crisp cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This will help it set and make it easier to serve.
  • Top with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce. This will make your apple crisp even more delicious!

Conclusion:

Apple crisp is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious and impressive apple crisp that your family and friends will love.
