Tips:
- Choose the right type of green chile: New Mexico green chiles are the traditional choice for this stew, but you can also use Anaheim or Poblano peppers. If you like a milder stew, remove the seeds and ribs from the chiles before cooking.
- Roast the chiles: Roasting the chiles brings out their flavor and gives the stew a smoky taste. You can roast the chiles in a hot oven, on a grill, or over an open flame.
- Use a good quality broth: The broth is the base of the stew, so it's important to use a good quality broth. You can use chicken broth, beef broth, or vegetable broth.
- Cook the stew low and slow: This allows the flavors to meld and the meat to become tender. Simmer the stew for at least 1 hour, or longer if you have time.
- Serve with your favorite toppings: Green chile stew is traditionally served with cornbread, tortillas, or rice. You can also add sour cream, cheese, or avocado.
Conclusion:
New Mexico green chile stew is a delicious and hearty dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a comforting and flavorful meal, give this stew a try. You won't be disappointed!
