1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups vegetable shortening
2 large eggs
1 cup milk
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup orange juice
3 tablespoons grated orange rind
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup dried basil
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon butter, melted
2 -3 tablespoons milk
1 pinch salt
1/2 teaspoon orange extract
chopped pistachio nut, for garnish

  • in a large mixing bowl, cream the granulated sugar and the shortening for 3 minutes.
