GRANDMA'S RUSSIAN TEA

Grandma's Russian Tea image

I grew up drinking this tea at my grandmother's house. I now fix it at my house on really cold days, when I am sick (lots of vitamin C!), and at Christmas. It is perfect to let simmer on the stove to make the house smell good and to serve to guests. I have no idea why its called 'Russian' tea; that is just what my grandmother always called it. Use any tea you like. I've used regular black tea, decaf, and cinnamon spice, and it's all great. If using spiced tea, you may want to adjust the amount of cinnamon, cloves, and allspice. This is also great reheated!

AUNT DOROTHY'S RUSSIAN TEA

Aunt Dorothy's Russian Tea image

When I was growing up I always looked forward to the Russian Tea that my Aunt Dorothy made every Christmas Eve. As soon as the weather turned chilly, I would start longing for a hot, steamy cup. It wasn't unitl I was away at college that I finally thought to ask her for the recipe! I place the whole cloves into a tea ball strainer so they're easy to remove when the tea is ready. If you don't have a tea ball, you can place the cloves in cheesecloth as directed. -Sharon Flenniken, Charlotte, North Carolina

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Oranges: Select oranges with a deep orange color and a heavy feel. These oranges are usually juicier and have a stronger flavor.
  • Prepare the Oranges Properly: Wash the oranges thoroughly to remove any wax or dirt. Use a vegetable peeler to remove the zest in long strips. Be careful not to remove the white pith, as it can add bitterness to the tea.
  • Use Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice: Freshly squeezed orange juice provides the best flavor and aroma to the tea. If you don't have fresh oranges, you can use store-bought orange juice, but make sure it's 100% pure and not from concentrate.
  • Don't Overcook the Orange Slices: When making the orange syrup, don't overcook the orange slices. Overcooking can make the slices tough and bitter. Cook them just until they become translucent.
  • Use Good Quality Tea: The type of tea you use will also affect the flavor of the tea. Use a good quality black tea, such as Earl Grey or Assam, for a strong and flavorful tea. You can also use herbal teas, such as chamomile or peppermint, for a more delicate flavor.
  • Experiment with Different Flavors: Feel free to experiment with different flavors to create your own unique tea blend. You can add spices like cinnamon or cloves, or herbs like mint or ginger.

Conclusion:

Orange Crystal Russian Tea is a delightful and refreshing beverage that is perfect for any occasion. With its sweet and tangy flavor and beautiful appearance, it's sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a special tea to enjoy, give Orange Crystal Russian Tea a try. You won't be disappointed!
