Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 55m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted
Two 16-ounce tubes refrigerated biscuit dough
2 cups light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Zest of 1 orange
1 cup roasted chopped pecans

  • Position a rack in the lower third of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees F. Put the butter in a medium bowl. Brush the Bundt pan with some of the butter to lightly coat.
  • Cut the biscuits into quarters. Combine the sugar, cinnamon and orange zest in a large bowl and stir together.
  • Working in batches, toss one-third of the biscuits in the melted butter, roll them in the sugar mixture to lightly coat and add them to the Bundt pan so they are nestled together in an even layer; sprinkle with one-third of the pecans. Repeat to make two more layers of biscuits rolled in sugar and the pecans. Sprinkle the top with any leftover sugar mixture and drizzle with any leftover butter.
  • Cover the pan with foil and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the foil and bake until puffed and golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes more. Loosen the bread from the sides of the pan with a knife or offset spatula. Carefully invert the pan onto a serving plate, remove the pan and serve hot.

Time 1h5m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 (1/4 ounce) package active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup sugar, divided
3 3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 cup warm milk (100-110 F)
2 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled
1 cup light brown sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons butter, melted, cooled
1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1/4 teaspoon orange extract

Steps:

  • Mix yeast, warm water and 1 tbsp sugar together in a bowl; let stand for 5 minutes until bubbly. Add milk, butter, 1/2 flour, salt, and remaining sugar; mix with an electric mixer until combined and no longer lumpy. Add rest of flour and knead in by hand for 5 to 6 minutes. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.(Alternatively, use the soft dough cycle on your bread maker.).
  • Spray a fluted ring pan with cooking spray. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl. Deflate the dough, pinch off a tablespoon, roll between palms (it helps to lightly oil hands as dough is very sticky), dip ball into melted butter, then roll in brown sugar mixture. Place evenly around the ring pan. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest overnight in refrigerator.
  • In the morning, remove the pan. Place in preheated oven (350 F). Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Let sit for 5 minutes before turning onto serving plate. Stir together the confectioner's sugar, milk, and orange extract; pour evenly over bread. Garnish with candied citrus peel (Recipezaar #5319), if desired.

Tips:

  • Use fresh oranges for the best flavor. If you don't have fresh oranges, you can use 1 cup of orange juice and 1 tablespoon of orange zest.
  • Be sure to grease the bundt pan well before adding the batter. This will help the monkey bread come out of the pan easily.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing will make the monkey bread tough.
  • Bake the monkey bread until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. This will usually take about 30-35 minutes.
  • Let the monkey bread cool for a few minutes before inverting it onto a serving plate. This will help prevent the monkey bread from breaking apart.
  • Serve the monkey bread warm with strawberry coulis or your favorite dipping sauce.
