Categories     Vegetable

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 can (10 3/4 oz.) Campbell's® Cream of Mushroom Soup
3/4 cup milk
1/8 tsp. black pepper
2 pkgs. (9 oz. each) frozen cut green beans, thawed*
1 1/3 cups French's® Original French Fried Onions

Steps:

  • 1. Combine soup, milk and pepper in a 1 1/2 qt. baking dish; stir until blended. Stir in beans and 2/3 cup French's French Fried Onions. 2. Bake at 350ºF for 30 minutes or until hot. Stir. Sprinkle with remaining 2/3 cup French Fried Onions. Bake 5 minutes or until onions are golden. *Or 2 cans (14 1/2 oz. each) cut green beans, drained.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh green beans. Fresh green beans will have a vibrant green color and be crisp to the touch. Avoid beans that are wilted or have brown spots.
  • Blanch the green beans before adding them to the casserole. Blanching helps to preserve the color and texture of the beans. To blanch the beans, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the beans and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until they are bright green and tender. Drain the beans and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Use a good quality cream of mushroom soup. The cream of mushroom soup is a key ingredient in green bean casserole. Choose a soup that is made with real mushrooms and has a rich, creamy flavor.
  • Don't overcook the casserole. Green bean casserole is best when it is cooked just until the beans are heated through and the casserole is bubbly. Overcooking the casserole will make the beans mushy and the casserole will lose its flavor.
  • Top the casserole with crispy fried onions before serving. Crispy fried onions add a delicious crunch and flavor to the casserole. You can buy crispy fried onions in the store, or you can make your own by frying thinly sliced onions in hot oil until they are golden brown.

Conclusion:

Green bean casserole is a classic American side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. Whether you like your casserole creamy or crunchy, with mushrooms or without, there is a recipe out there that is perfect for you.
