EASY CHEESY POTATOES

Categories     Potato

Time 25m

Yield 1 casarole, 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

6 medium potatoes
1 medium white onion, sliced
1/4 teaspoon dried parsley
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 tablespoons butter (1/2 a stick)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Slice the potatoes very thin.
  • Place half of the sliced potatoes in a oiled 2 quart casserole dish.
  • Place half of the sliced onions on the next layer.
  • On top of that sprinkle half of the salt, pepper, and dried parsley.
  • Now place a layer of 1/2 cup of your cheddar cheese.
  • Repeat the last four steps (3-6) making another layer of each.
  • Cover the dish and bake 15 min or until potatoes are tender.

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for this recipe because they hold their shape well and have a fluffy texture. You can also use Yukon Gold potatoes, but they may fall apart more easily.
  • Cut the potatoes evenly: This will help them cook evenly. If the potatoes are different sizes, the smaller ones will cook faster than the larger ones.
  • Parboil the potatoes: This will help them cook more quickly in the oven. Parboiling also helps to remove some of the starch from the potatoes, which makes them less likely to stick together.
  • Use a flavorful cheese: A good quality cheddar cheese or a blend of cheeses will give your potatoes the best flavor. You can also add other ingredients to the cheese mixture, such as bacon, chives, or jalapeños.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: Make sure there is enough space between the potatoes so that they can cook evenly. If the potatoes are too crowded, they will steam instead of bake.
  • Bake the potatoes until they are golden brown: This will ensure that they are cooked through and have a crispy exterior.

Conclusion:

These oven-baked cheesy potatoes are a delicious and easy side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a dish that everyone will love.
