OVEN FRITES

Serve frites plain or accompanied by ketchup, mayonnaise or malt vinegar. Or, for a twist, try adding fresh chopped chervil to Dijon mustard.

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 medium baking potatoes
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Olive-oil cooking spray

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400 degrees. Place a heavy-duty baking sheet in the oven. Scrub and rinse potatoes well, and then cut them lengthwise into 1/2-inch-wide batons. Place potato batons in a medium bowl, and toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  • When baking sheet is hot, about 15 minutes, remove from oven, and spray with olive-oil cooking spray. Place prepared potatoes on baking sheet in a single layer. Return to oven, and bake until potatoes are golden on the bottom, about 30 minutes. Turn potatoes over, and continue cooking until golden all over, another 15 minutes. Serve immediately.

Tips for Making Perfect Oven Frites:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for oven frites because they are starchy and have a low moisture content, which makes them crispy when baked.
  • Cut the potatoes into even-sized pieces: This will help them cook evenly.
  • Soak the potatoes in water for 30 minutes: This will help to remove excess starch and make the fries crispier.
  • Toss the potatoes with oil, salt, and pepper: This will help them to brown and season them evenly.
  • Bake the fries at a high temperature: This will help them to crisp up quickly.
  • Flip the fries halfway through cooking: This will help them to cook evenly.
  • Serve the fries immediately: They are best when they are hot and crispy.

Conclusion:

Oven frites are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are a great way to use up leftover potatoes, and they can be customized to your liking by adding different seasonings or toppings. Whether you are looking for a quick and easy weeknight meal or a fun snack to share with friends, oven frites are a great option. So next time you are craving something crispy and delicious, give oven frites a try!
