Number Of Ingredients 6

1 package white cake mix (regular size)
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
1/2 cup plus 2 T crushed peppermint candies, divided
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 T milk

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare cake batter according to package directions. Transfer 1 cup to a small bowl; stir in the extract, food coloring and 1/2 cup crushed candies. 2. Spoon 2 cups of remaining batter into a greased and floured 10-in. fluted tube pan. Carefully top with peppermint batter; do not swirl. Top with remaining plain batter. 3. Bake at 350° for 35-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely. 4. Combine confectioners' sugar and milk; drizzle over cake. Sprinkle with remaining crushed candies.

Tips:

  • For the perfect ribbon effect, make sure the red and white batters are at the same consistency. If one batter is too thick or thin, the ribbons will not be as defined.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing will make the cake tough. Mix just until the ingredients are well combined.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven. This will help the cake rise evenly and prevent it from sinking in the center.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help the frosting set properly and prevent it from sliding off the cake.
  • If you don't have a piping bag, you can use a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off to pipe the frosting.

Conclusion:

Peppermint ribbon cake is a delicious and festive dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its beautiful red and white ribbons, it is sure to be a hit at your next party or gathering. So next time you're looking for a special dessert, give this peppermint ribbon cake a try. You won't be disappointed!
