Steps:
- In a skillet, brown beef; drain.
- Transfer to a 5-quart slow cooker/ crockpot.
- Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
- Cover and cook for 4-8 hours or until bubbly.
Tips:
- Choose the right beans: For this recipe, it's best to use dried beans. Dried beans have a more robust flavor and hold their shape better than canned beans.
- Soak the beans overnight: Soaking the beans overnight helps to soften them and reduce the cooking time. If you forget to soak the beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them for 1 minute, then removing them from the heat and letting them sit for 1 hour.
- Use a flavorful broth: The broth you use to cook the beans will add a lot of flavor to the dish. Use a broth that you enjoy the taste of, such as beef broth, chicken broth, or vegetable broth.
- Add some sweetness: The pineapple in this recipe adds a touch of sweetness that balances out the savory flavors of the beef and beans. If you don't have pineapple, you can substitute another sweet fruit, such as peaches or apricots.
- Don't overcook the beef: The beef should be cooked until it is tender, but not tough. Overcooked beef will be dry and chewy.
- Serve with your favorite sides: This dish is delicious served with mashed potatoes, rice, or cornbread.
