Time 6h30m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb ground beef
28 ounces baked beans
8 ounces pineapple tidbits, drained
1 large onion, chopped
1 large green pepper, chopped
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a skillet, brown beef; drain.
  • Transfer to a 5-quart slow cooker/ crockpot.
  • Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
  • Cover and cook for 4-8 hours or until bubbly.

Tips:

  • Choose the right beans: For this recipe, it's best to use dried beans. Dried beans have a more robust flavor and hold their shape better than canned beans.
  • Soak the beans overnight: Soaking the beans overnight helps to soften them and reduce the cooking time. If you forget to soak the beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them for 1 minute, then removing them from the heat and letting them sit for 1 hour.
  • Use a flavorful broth: The broth you use to cook the beans will add a lot of flavor to the dish. Use a broth that you enjoy the taste of, such as beef broth, chicken broth, or vegetable broth.
  • Add some sweetness: The pineapple in this recipe adds a touch of sweetness that balances out the savory flavors of the beef and beans. If you don't have pineapple, you can substitute another sweet fruit, such as peaches or apricots.
  • Don't overcook the beef: The beef should be cooked until it is tender, but not tough. Overcooked beef will be dry and chewy.
  • Serve with your favorite sides: This dish is delicious served with mashed potatoes, rice, or cornbread.
