PINEAPPLE MUSTARD GLAZED HAM

Pineapple Mustard Glazed Ham image

A baked spiral-sliced ham garnished with pineapple slices has a very retro feel. It's a recipe many of us are happy to revisit, especially around the holidays. Keeping the ham tightly wrapped in foil while it's in the oven ensures the meat will be succulent and juicy. Use canned pineapple slices packed in juice-fresh pineapple will not be as juicy and may dry out too quickly during cooking.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: For this recipe, a fully cooked ham is best. A spiral-cut ham is also a good option, as it is easier to slice and will allow the glaze to penetrate more deeply.
  • Make the glaze ahead of time: The glaze can be made up to a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
  • Use a good quality mustard: The mustard is a key ingredient in the glaze, so it is important to use a good quality one. A grainy mustard or Dijon mustard will work well.
  • Preheat the oven: Before you start cooking the ham, preheat the oven to the correct temperature. This will help to ensure that the ham cooks evenly.
  • Baste the ham regularly: While the ham is cooking, baste it with the glaze every 15-20 minutes. This will help to keep the ham moist and flavorful.
  • Let the ham rest before slicing: Once the ham is cooked, let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This will allow the juices to redistribute and make the ham easier to slice.

Conclusion:

Pineapple Mustard Ham is a classic holiday dish that is sure to impress your guests. The sweet and tangy glaze pairs perfectly with the savory ham, and the addition of pineapple adds a touch of tropical flair. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious and festive ham that will be the star of your table.
