Time 1h35m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lemon, juiced
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon white sugar
salt and pepper to taste
4 pounds New York strip steak, sliced thin
1 tablespoon cornstarch
¼ cup vegetable oil
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped

Steps:

  • Whisk the lemon juice, soy sauce, sugar, salt, and pepper together in a small bowl. Place the sliced steak in a large bowl; pour the lemon juice mixture over the steak and toss to coat. Sprinkle with the cornstarch and lightly mix. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour, up to overnight.
  • Heat 1/4 cup vegetable oil in a large skillet. Remove the beef slices from the marinade, shaking to remove any excess liquid. Fry the beef slices in batches in the hot oil until they start to firm, and are reddish-pink and juicy in the center, 2 to 4 minutes per side. Remove the beef slices from the skillet and set aside on a serving platter.
  • Heat the olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir the onion and garlic in the hot oil until the onion is golden brown, 5 to 7 minutes; pour over the beef slices.

Tips for Making Beet Steaks:

  • Choose beets that are about 2 inches in diameter. Smaller beets will cook more quickly, but they may be more difficult to handle.
  • Trim the tops and roots of the beets, leaving about 1 inch of stem attached.
  • Scrub the beets well to remove any dirt or debris.
  • To roast the beets, preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Toss the beets with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Roast for 45-60 minutes, or until the beets are tender when pierced with a fork.
  • To pan-fry the beets, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the beets and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the beets are browned.
  • To grill the beets, preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Brush the beets with olive oil and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until the beets are tender when pierced with a fork.
  • Serve the beets immediately, topped with your favorite sauce or dressing.
