REAL CANADIAN BUTTER TARTS RECIPE - (4.5/5)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup butter, melted
3 tablespoons vinegar
4 eggs, lightly beaten
4 cups brown sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 cup currants

Steps:

  • Line tart tins with pastry. Sprinkle 6 to 8 currants into each tart shell. Let butter cool to room temp, then add the remaining ingredients. Stir until smooth. Spoon into unbaked tart shells, filling about 2/3 full. Bake at 200°F for 15 minutes, then without taking the tarts out, turn the oven to 350°F. Bake another 10 to 15 min, until they start to brown. This method will prevent them from boiling over. Note: I use Tender flake lard and make the pastry using the instructions on the box, chilling the dough before rolling. Roll it a little thicker than for pie pastry, and use a little extra flour.

Tips:

  • Use real Canadian butter for the best flavor and texture.
  • Make sure your butter is cold before you start making the tarts. This will help to prevent the tarts from spreading too much in the oven.
  • Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the tarts tough.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out. This will help to prevent the tarts from shrinking in the oven.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into circles. This will help to prevent the tarts from tearing.
  • Fill the tarts with your favorite fillings. Some popular fillings include raisins, pecans, walnuts, and maple syrup.
  • Bake the tarts at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is set.
  • Let the tarts cool completely before serving.

Conclusion:

Real Canadian butter tarts are a classic Canadian dessert that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. With their flaky crust, creamy filling, and variety of fillings, butter tarts are the perfect treat to enjoy for any occasion.
