RED PUNCH IN A RUSH

Red Punch in a Rush image

It doesn't get any easier than THIS! It's red, and the kids LOVE it. Thought it up on my own, when I needed punch for my son's party years ago. You can add other things, but it is fine as is. I served it at an adult Christmas party, and THEY liked it,too. Store brands of bottled punch and soda work every bit as well as the national brands for this punch.

EDOUARDO JORDAN'S JUNETEENTH RED PUNCH

Edouardo Jordan's Juneteenth Red Punch image

One of the chef Edouardo Jordan's fond memories is making the punch for family celebrations; he'd add layers of fresh fruit and juices to Hawaiian Punch or Tropical Punch Kool-Aid. Red drinks are a staple at Juneteenth gatherings for African-Americans across the U.S. The color is a reminder of the red kola nuts and bissap (commonly known as hibiscus tea), which made their way to the Americas as part of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Cognac salutes black World War II soldiers' love affair with the spirit and its continued popularity among African-American spirit drinkers, but any dark rum or whiskey is an excellent substitution. Find the best ripe strawberries for the simple syrup, and look for pineapple and pomegranate juices with no added sugar.

Provided by Nicole Taylor

Categories     cocktails

Time 45m

Yield 6 drinks

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries (about 6 ounces), hulled and halved
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup sliced (unpeeled) fresh ginger (about 2 ounces)
6 ounces strawberry syrup, cooled
4 1/2 ounces Cognac
3 ounces unsweetened pineapple juice
3 ounces unsweetened pomegranate juice
2 ounces lime juice
3 ounces ginger beer
Ice, for serving
12 ounces dry sparkling wine
Fresh strawberry or pineapple, dehydrated pineapple, or crystallized ginger, for garnish (optional)

Steps:

  • Prepare the syrup: In a medium saucepan, bring strawberries, sugar, ginger and 3/4 cup water to a simmer over low heat and cook for 15 minutes until liquid reduces. (If it starts to boil, lower the heat as needed.) Remove from heat, cover with a lid and let it cool to room temperature.
  • Strain cooled syrup through a fine-mesh strainer, mashing the pulp to extract as much liquid as possible. (You should have about 1 cup.) Refrigerate until ready to use. (The syrup will last for 1 week.)
  • Batch the cocktail: In a large mason jar or pitcher, combine 6 ounces syrup with the Cognac, juices and ginger beer. Stir with a wooden spoon and seal. (You can mix it up and refrigerate to 1 day in advance.)
  • When ready to serve, fill six old-fashioned glasses with ice. Stir the batched cocktail (in case it settled while chilling) and divide it equally among glasses. Top each glass with 2 ounces wine and garnish, if desired.

RED CHRISTMAS PUNCH (HOT MULLED CIDER)

Red Christmas Punch (hot mulled cider) image

We make this every Christmas, and it's a favorite with friends and family. Sometimes I vary the juices - you can use cranberry instead of cherry, or cranapple juice instead of apple cider.

Provided by Susan Feliciano

1 qt cherry cider or juice
2 juice oranges
4 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp whole cloves

  • 1. Mix together the ciders/juices in a large kettle over medium heat.
  • 2. Peel the zest off one orange in large strips. Place zest, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in a double square of cheesecloth, and tie tightly. Place spice bag into the cider mixture.
  • 3. Heat the cider to serving temperature - like hot coffee or tea (do not boil). Barely simmer the punch for about 15 minutes.
  • 4. Juice the orange and add the juice to the cider. Halve and slice the remaining orange and float the slices on top of the hot punch. Serve hot with an orange slice and cinnamon stick if desired.

RED VELVET PUNCH

Red Velvet Punch image

A non-alcoholic punch for parties. Add vodka or light rum to make it adult. Cook time is chill time.

Provided by Mikekey *

Categories     Punches

Time 1h30m

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 c cranberry juice cocktail
1 can(s) (6 oz) frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
1 can(s) (6 oz) frozen pineapple juice concentrate, thawed
1 can(s) (6 oz) frozen pink lemonade concentrate, thawed
1 c grape juice (purple)
2 l chilled ginger ale

Steps:

  • 1. Mix all ingredients, except ginger ale, together in a large punch bowl and chill for about an hour.
  • 2. Just before serving add ginger ale.
  • 3. Can be poured over ice in a punch bowl for serving.

Tips:

  • Prep Your Ingredients: Before you start mixing, measure and prep all of your ingredients. This will help you stay organized and ensure you have everything you need.
  • Choose the Right Fruit Juices: The type of fruit juices you use will greatly impact the flavor of your punch. Select juices that are fresh and flavorful, and avoid using juices that are overly sweet or tart.
  • Use Fresh or Frozen Fruit: Fresh fruit is always best, but frozen fruit can also be used if fresh fruit is unavailable. If using frozen fruit, thaw it before adding it to the punch.
  • Sweeten to Taste: Start with a small amount of sugar or simple syrup and taste the punch before adding more. You can always add more sweetener, but it's difficult to remove it once it's been added.
  • Chill Before Serving: Red punch is best served chilled. Refrigerate the punch for at least an hour before serving, or even overnight for a more flavorful punch.
  • Garnish for Presentation: Add a festive touch to your punch by garnishing it with fresh fruit, mint leaves, or a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Conclusion:

A refreshing and flavorful red punch is a perfect drink to enjoy at any gathering. Whether you're hosting a party or just want to enjoy a special treat, these recipes provide a variety of options to suit your taste. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious punch that will be a hit with everyone.
