I haven't tried this yet, but am posting it before I lose the recipe. I can't use wines and beers and other alcoholic drinks and have been using white vinegar or rice vinegar in place of japanese mirin in my japanese cooking. Tips for Choosing a Red Wine Substitute

  • Consider the flavor profile of the dish. Some red wine substitutes, such as cranberry juice, have a tart flavor that can complement dishes with rich, savory flavors. Others, such as pomegranate juice, have a sweeter flavor that can work well with lighter dishes.
  • Think about the texture of the dish. Some red wine substitutes, such as beef broth, have a thicker consistency that can add body to soups and stews. Others, such as red grape juice, have a thinner consistency that can be used in sauces and marinades.
  • Experiment with different substitutes. There is no one-size-fits-all red wine substitute. The best substitute for a particular dish will depend on the flavor profile and texture of the dish. Experiment with different substitutes until you find one that you like.

However, if you don't have red wine on hand or you're looking for a non-alcoholic alternative, there are several substitutes that you can use.
