Yield 8

1 (3 pound) pork roast (I used boneless)
1 (12 ounce) can root beer

Steps:

  • Spray your slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Place roast inside slow cooker and pour the root beer over the meat.
  • Cook on low for about 6-8 hours (or until meat easily shreds).

Tips for Making the Best Root Beer Pulled Pork Sandwiches:

  • Choose a high-quality root beer. This will make a big difference in the flavor of the pulled pork. Look for a root beer that is full-flavored and has a strong vanilla or caramel flavor.
  • Cook the pork shoulder low and slow. This will help to tenderize the meat and make it fall-apart tender. Cook the pork on low heat for 8-10 hours, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Baste the pork with root beer throughout the cooking process. This will help to keep the pork moist and flavorful. Baste the pork every hour or so with a mixture of root beer and brown sugar.
  • Shred the pork with two forks. Once the pork is cooked, shred it with two forks. Be careful not to over-shred the pork, as you want it to retain some of its texture.
  • Serve the pulled pork on soft buns with your favorite toppings. Some popular toppings for pulled pork sandwiches include coleslaw, pickles, onions, and barbecue sauce.
