RUDY'S AT THE LOOP TEXAS HOT SAUCE

Rudy's at the Loop Texas Hot Sauce image

This is a copykat recipe I found on another internet site. I am not a hot dog fan but with Hoffman's German Franks and this hot sauce, I actually like them. I had tried making a copy of Rudy's sauce on my own, but this recipe tastes exactly the same as the one found at Rudy's on the shore of Lake Ontario just off the Oswego college campus.

Time 2h20m

Yield 1 qt

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 lb ground beef
1 large onion
8 ounces tomato sauce
2 cups water
1 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon clove
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

Steps:

  • Simmer onion and meat in a sauce pan until meat is in fine pieces.
  • Drain, transfer mixture to a food processor and pulse until finely ground.
  • Return meat mixture to pan, add remaining ingredients and simmer an additional 2 hours.
  • I always make a double batch and freeze some. This always goes in the camper with us.

Tips:

  • Before making the sauce, gather all the necessary ingredients and equipment to ensure a smooth cooking process.
  • To achieve a smoky flavor in the sauce, use a combination of smoked paprika, liquid smoke, or chipotle peppers.
  • Feel free to adjust the sweetness and spiciness of the sauce to suit your preference. If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add more brown sugar or honey. For a spicier sauce, increase the amount of cayenne pepper or add a pinch of chili powder.
  • For a thicker sauce, simmer it for a longer time, allowing the flavors to deepen and concentrate. Alternatively, you can add a cornstarch or flour slurry to thicken the sauce quickly.
  • When storing the BBQ sauce, keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze it for up to 3 months.

Conclusion:

Experimenting with different ingredients and techniques allows you to create a personalized and flavorful BBQ sauce that complements your favorite grilled or smoked dishes. Whether you prefer a tangy, sweet, smoky, or spicy sauce, there's a recipe in this article that will satisfy your taste buds. With careful preparation and attention to detail, you can elevate your backyard barbecue game and impress your family and friends with a homemade BBQ sauce that is sure to become a staple in your culinary repertoire.
