EASY GREEK YOGURT CUCUMBER SAUCE

Easy Greek Yogurt Cucumber Sauce image

This concoction is a result of my experimental efforts in trying to copy a favorite Greek restaurant's tzatziki sauce. Serve with gyros, pita bread, chips, or raw veggies.

This sauce tastes a lot like tzatziki, but it's WAY easier to make. I actually like it better than tzatziki. Very good on grilled chicken gyros. YUM!

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

8 ounces Greek yogurt (I got mine in a health food store)
1 cucumber (shredded)
1 onion (shredded)

1/2 teaspoon sugar, do not make too sweet (or I use 1/2 packet of Splenda)
salt (to taste)

Steps:

  • Put yogurt in a mixing bowl.
  • Add amount of cucumber and onion as YOU like. (I like it pretty thick).
  • Add garlic, (I like it real garlicy).
  • Add splenda or sugar but make sure you don't make it sweet, just a hint.
  • Add salt to taste. (I always add more at the table if I like).
  • HINT:.
  • You may add a bit of sour cream for a different consistancy.
  • You may add a bit of chopped dill, (but do not overpower).
  • You may add a bit of powdered garlic, (I do).

Tips:

  • Use high-quality Greek yogurt as the base for your sauce. Look for a yogurt that is thick and creamy, with a tangy flavor.
  • Add your favorite herbs, spices, and seasonings to the yogurt to create a customized sauce. Some popular options include garlic, lemon, dill, and cumin.
  • If you want a thinner sauce, add a little bit of milk or water. If you want a thicker sauce, add a little bit of cornstarch or flour.
  • Serve the sauce immediately or store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Use Greek yogurt sauce as a dip for vegetables, fruits, or crackers. You can also use it as a marinade for chicken, fish, or tofu. It's also a great addition to salads, sandwiches, and wraps.

Conclusion:

Greek yogurt sauce is a versatile and delicious condiment that can be used in a variety of dishes. It's a healthy alternative to mayonnaise or sour cream, and it's also a great way to add flavor and creaminess to your favorite recipes. So next time you're looking for a new sauce to try, give Greek yogurt sauce a try. You won't be disappointed!
