WHITE MELON SANGRIA

White Melon Sangria image

Even though it seems a contradiction for a sangria to be made with white wine (since sangria is named for its blood-red color), once you've tasted this festive thirst quencher it won't matter a bit! Pieces of mixed summer melons are the perfect match for a crisp Sauvignon Blanc. From 'EatingWell.com' and posted for ZWT5.

Time 30m

Yield 6 1 cup servings, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 1/2 cups melon, pieces (mixed colorful bite-size melon pieces, such as cantaloupe, honeydew, Ogen or Charentais)
1/3 cup sugar
1 (750 ml) bottle crisp white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc or 1 (750 ml) bottle pinot grigio wine
1/4 cup brandy
2 tablespoons triple sec or 2 tablespoons other orange-flavored liqueur
3/4 cup sparkling water or 3/4 cup club soda
ice cube
limes or star fruit, slices (to garnish)
1 small mint sprig (to garnish)

Steps:

  • Stir melon and sugar together in a large pitcher. Let stand for 15 to 30 minutes to draw out the juices.
  • Just before serving, stir wine, brandy, Triple Sec (or other orange liqueur) and sparkling water (or club soda) into the pitcher.
  • Add ice cubes to 6 glasses.
  • Fill the glasses with sangria, spooning some of the fruit into each glass.
  • Garnish each drink with a slice of lime (or starfruit) and a sprig of mint.
  • MAKE AHEAD TIP: prepare through Step 1, cover and refrigerate for up to 1 day. Finish with Step 2 just before serving.

Tips:

  • Use ripe, juicy watermelon for the best flavor. This will ensure that your drink is as sweet and refreshing as possible.
  • Chill the watermelon, sangria, and sparkling water before assembling the drink. This will help to keep it cold and refreshing on a hot day.
  • If you don't have any sangria on hand, you can use a dry red wine instead. Just be sure to add a little extra sugar to taste.
  • Garnish your drink with fresh mint leaves or slices of lime for a refreshing touch.

Conclusion:

The Sangria Melon Chiller is a delicious and refreshing drink that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. So next time you are looking for a cool and refreshing drink, give this one a try!
