There are a lot of pasta dishes that are good to eat and relatively low cost. This is one of my favorites. I found this recipe in an Albertson's grocery store meat department in Seattle, Washington.

1 1/2 lbs round steaks, lightly pound to tenderize
3/4 cup butter
1 -2 garlic clove, minced
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 large green pepper, cut into strips
1 carrot, grated
1 (1 lb) can tomatoes, with liquid
1 beef bouillon cube
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
crushed red pepper flakes, to taste
cooked noodles, egg noodles are very good
1 cup cheddar cheese, grated

Steps:

  • Cut meat into 1/4-inch strips. Saute in heated butter with garlic until browned. Remove meat from skillet.
  • Add onion, green pepper and carrot. Cook 2 -3 minutes. Return meat to skillet. Add tomatoes with liquid, boullion cube and oregano.
  • Cover and simmer about 20 minutes or until meat is tender.
  • Meanwhile, in small bowl mix together cornstarch, water, Worcestershire sauce and salt.
  • Blend into meat mixture, stirring until thickened.
  • Serve sauce over cooked noodles.
  • Sprinkle with grated cheese.
  • Add additional crushed red pepper for more "kick".

2/3 cup orange marmalade
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon fresh rosemary
32 ounces beef loin steaks (1 inch thick)

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, combine marmalade, butter and rosemary. Cook and stir over low heat until butter is melted and mixture is heated through. Set aside.
  • Sprinkle both sides of each steak with salt and ground black pepper. Place steaks on the rack of an uncovered grill (or George Forman Grill at 350)directly over medium coals. Grill until desired doneness, turning once halfway through grilling and brushing with the marmalade mixture during the last 2 minutes of grilling. Allow 11 to 15 minutes for medium-rare (145) or 14 to 18 minutes for medium doneness (160).
  • Transfer steaks to a serving platter. Spoon any remaining marmalde mixture over steaks.

1 lb beef sirloin, cut into thin strips
3 green onions, chopped
2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon sesame oil
2 tablespoons minced fresh garlic (or to taste)
2 teaspoons dried red pepper flakes (or to taste)
2 -3 tablespoons vegetable oil
cooked rice

Steps:

  • In a bowl whisk together green onions, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil; place the mixture into a large zip-lock freezer bag.
  • Add in beef strips, seal bag and toss to coat; refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • In a large skillet heat oil; add in the garlic and dried pepper flakes; cook for about 1 minute.
  • Add in the beef mixture (with marinade ingredients) cook over medium-high heat for about 3-5 minutes (do not overcook or the beef will burn).
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve with cooked rice.

2 lbs round steaks
1/3 cup vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup ketchup
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch

Steps:

  • Cut steak into strips.
  • Combine next 9 ingredients in a large bowl to make a marinade.
  • Add beef strips, stir, cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  • Drain beef strips, reserving marinade.
  • In a hot skillet, brown the beef strips for 3-4 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, combine ketchup, tomato sauce, and cornstarch with reserved marinade.
