Categories     dessert

Time 1h

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 15

3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup roasted peanuts, chopped
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup peanut oil
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 ounces moonshine
3 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
3 large Pink Lady apples, cheeks removed and cut into 1/2-inch slices
1 pound cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 cup whole milk, at room temperature
2 cups heavy whipping cream, cold

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • For the crumble: In a large bowl combine the flour, oats, peanuts, granulated sugar and peanut oil. Pour onto a cookie sheet and bake until golden brown and crunchy, about 15 minutes. Cool completely.
  • For the apples: Meanwhile, melt the butter in an enameled cast-iron skillet over medium heat until golden, about 2 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine the moonshine, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice and apples. Toss to coat the apples. Add the mixture to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are caramelized and tender, 8 to 12 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool completely.
  • For the filling: In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together the cream cheese, peanut butter, confectioners' sugar and milk until smooth and creamy.
  • In another large mixing bowl or with a stand mixer, whip the cream until it forms stiff peaks. Fold two-thirds of the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture until no white streaks remain. Reserve the remaining whipped cream for garnish.
  • Build the trifle: In a large trifle dish, put one-third of the apples on the bottom. Top with one-third of the crumble and one-half of the peanut butter filling. Repeat to create a second layer. Add the remaining apples, then the reserved whipped cream, and finish with the remaining crumble topping.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve.

Warm Apple Thyme Dressing image

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Seasonal Recipes     Fall Recipes     Apple Recipes

Yield Makes 3/4 cup

Number Of Ingredients 6

2/3 cup apple cider
1 apple, finely chopped
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon fresh oregano
1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme

Steps:

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan and boil for 3 to 5 minutes, until the juices are slightly thickened and the apples are soft but not broken down. The dressing will keep, tightly covered, in the refrigerator for 3 days.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: For sautéed apples, choose firm, tart apples that hold their shape well, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn.
  • Slice the apples evenly: This will help them cook evenly. Use a sharp knife to cut the apples into thin, even slices.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When sautéing the apples, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent them from cooking evenly and becoming mushy.
  • Cook the apples over medium heat: This will help them caramelize and develop a nice golden brown color.
  • Add a little sugar or honey: This will help the apples caramelize and add a touch of sweetness. You can also use maple syrup or brown sugar.
  • Add some spices: Spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger can add a nice flavor to sautéed apples. You can also add a pinch of salt to balance out the sweetness.
  • Serve the apples warm: Sautéed apples are best served warm. You can serve them on their own, or you can use them as a topping for pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal.

Conclusion:

Sautéed apples are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are also a great way to use up leftover apples. With a few simple tips, you can make sautéed apples that are caramelized, flavorful, and perfect for any occasion.
