Tips:

  • Fresh cranberries: Use fresh and plump cranberries for the best flavor and texture. Frozen cranberries can also be used, but thaw them completely before cooking.
  • Orange zest: The orange zest adds a bright and citrusy flavor to the dish. Be sure to use a microplane grater to get the finest zest.
  • Sugar: The amount of sugar you add will depend on your personal preference. For a sweeter dish, use more sugar. For a tarter dish, use less sugar.
  • Butter: Butter adds richness and flavor to the dish. Use unsalted butter so you can control the amount of salt.
  • Spices: Nutmeg and cinnamon are classic spices that are often used with cranberries. You can also add a pinch of ginger or allspice for extra flavor.
  • Baking dish: Use a baking dish that is large enough to hold all of the ingredients comfortably. A 9x13 inch baking dish is a good size.
  • Covering the dish: Cover the dish with foil during baking to prevent the cranberries from drying out. Remove the foil during the last 10-15 minutes of baking to allow the top to brown.
