EASY PIZZA PASTA CASSEROLE (OAMC)

Easy Pizza Pasta Casserole (OAMC) image

This is a kid pleaser-very cheesy and topped with pepperoni. It makes 2 large (9x13) casseroles or 4 small ones; I often divide it in fourths and freeze 3. This originally came from TOH's Quick Cooking.

2 lbs ground beef or 2 lbs ground venison
1 large onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon italian seasoning
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
16 ounces rotini pasta, cooked and drained
5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (20 oz)
8 ounces sliced pepperoni

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef, onion, garlic and seasoning in oil.
  • Drain.

  • To bake frozen casserole: Thaw in refrigerator overnight and bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes, till hot.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use fresh, ripe ingredients whenever possible.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different types of cheese. A good melting cheese, such as mozzarella or provolone, is a must, but you can also add a flavorful cheese like Parmesan or Asiago for extra depth of flavor.
  • If you're using frozen vegetables, be sure to thaw them completely before adding them to the casserole. This will help prevent the casserole from becoming watery.
  • Don't overcook the casserole. The pasta should be cooked through, but still have a little bite to it. The cheese should be melted and bubbly, but not browned.
  • Serve the casserole immediately, while it's hot and bubbly. You can garnish it with fresh herbs, such as basil or oregano, for extra flavor.

Sicilian casserole is a delicious and versatile dish that can be easily customized to your liking.
