SIMPLE ICED TEA

Simple Iced Tea image

I got this from Nathalie DuPree years ago. It's the best iced tea EVER, and keeps for weeks. The "20" servings is a guess. It depends on the size of your glass; how strong you like your tea; how much ice you use, etc.

Time 4m

Yield 20 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

3 -4 tea bags
1 tablespoon baking soda
water (enough to fill your kettle)

Steps:

  • I use a little tea kettle for this. I put water in the kettle, and then add the tea bags and get the water to boiling. Take the kettle off the heat, and add the baking soda (it will foam over so make sure it's not over the burner or too full). Let it set and cool off.
  • I put mine in a pitcher in the fridge (some times with ice; some times just as is). It's almost black in color, and very strong. You need maybe 1 tbs. in a glass of water/ice, depending on how strong you want your tea. It keeps, without having that nasty taste, for well over a week (i've actually kept it almost 2 weeks and it's still delicious). Just remember it's VERY strong, and you need very, very little added to your water.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Tea Leaves: For the best flavor, use high-quality loose-leaf tea or tea bags.
  • Use Fresh Water: Always use fresh, cold water for brewing iced tea to ensure the best taste.
  • Steep Properly: Follow the recommended steeping time for the type of tea you are using. Over-steeping can result in a bitter taste.
  • Sweeten to Taste: Add sugar or other sweeteners to taste, if desired. You can also use honey, agave syrup, or flavored syrups for a variety of flavors.
  • Chill Thoroughly: Let the brewed tea cool completely before adding ice. This will help prevent the ice from diluting the tea.
  • Garnish and Enjoy: Serve iced tea over ice in tall glasses. Garnish with lemon or lime slices, mint leaves, or fresh berries for an extra refreshing touch.

Conclusion:

Iced tea is a refreshing and flavorful beverage that can be enjoyed all year round. With a variety of tea leaves, flavors, and brewing methods to choose from, there's an iced tea recipe for everyone. Experiment with different teas and brewing techniques to find your perfect iced tea recipe. Whether you prefer classic black tea, fruity herbal tea, or something in between, iced tea is a delicious and versatile drink that can be enjoyed at any time of day.
