Time 6h20m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 1/2 ounces dry onion soup mix
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1 bay leaf
2 lbs cubed beef stew meat
12 ounces beer

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients except beer in slow cooker.
  • Toss until meat is well coated with ingredients.
  • Pour beer over meat and stir.
  • Place lid on cooker and cook on high for 5-6 hours.
  • Remove bay leaf.
  • Serve over noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality beer: The type of beer you use will have a big impact on the flavor of the stew. Choose a beer that you enjoy drinking, as its flavor will be imparted to the stew.
  • Brown the beef before cooking: Browning the beef will help to develop its flavor and give the stew a richer color.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: The more vegetables you add to the stew, the more flavorful it will be. Some good options include carrots, potatoes, onions, celery, and mushrooms.
  • Season the stew well: Be sure to season the stew with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices to taste.
  • Cook the stew on low heat for a long time: The longer you cook the stew, the more tender the beef will be. Cook the stew for at least 8 hours, or up to 12 hours.
  • Serve the stew with crusty bread or rice: The stew can be served with a variety of sides, but crusty bread or rice are both good choices.
