The Asian influence here in the Hawaiian islands inspired my char siu recipe. It's tasty as is, in a bun or over rice. We make it often so we have leftovers to add to fried rice, ramen and salads. -Karen Naihe, Kamuela, Hawaii

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of pork: Pork shoulder is the best cut for char siu, as it has a good amount of fat that will render out during cooking, keeping the meat moist and flavorful.
  • Use a good quality char siu sauce: The sauce is what gives char siu its characteristic sweet and savory flavor. Be sure to use a sauce that is made with high-quality ingredients and that has a good balance of sweet, salty, and umami flavors.
  • Marinate the pork for at least 24 hours: This will allow the flavors of the sauce to penetrate the meat and result in a more flavorful dish.
  • Cook the pork on low heat: This will help to prevent the meat from drying out. Cook the pork for at least 6 hours, or until it is tender and fall-apart.
  • Baste the pork with the sauce regularly: This will help to keep the meat moist and flavorful. Baste the pork every 30 minutes or so.
  • Serve the pork with rice or noodles: Char siu is traditionally served with rice or noodles. You can also serve it with steamed vegetables or a side salad.

Conclusion:

Char siu pork is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways. It is a popular dish in Chinese cuisine and is often served at dim sum restaurants. Char siu pork can also be used in stir-fries, noodle dishes, and rice bowls. If you are looking for a flavorful and easy-to-make dish, char siu pork is a great option.
