Time 1h5m

Yield 20 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 quarts apple cider
1 quart 100% cranberry juice cocktail
2 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1 orange, sliced into 1/4-inch slices
1 cup brown sugar

Steps:

  • Place cloves and cinnamon sticks into a cheese cloth and tie with twist tie. (A coffee filter also works well).
  • Mix liquids and brown sugar in a crockpot or in a large kettle. Float the sac with spices in crockpot or kettle. Place sliced oranges on top of wassail.
  • Heat on high (crockpot) or medium heat (stovetop)to desired temperature (would not recommend boiling) and then keep warm on low in the crockpot or on the stovetop. Wassail will have more flavor if it is kept at higher temperature for 1-2 hours before serving.
  • To reduce bitterness, the orange slices should be removed from crockpot or kettle after several hours.

Tips:

  • Select the right apples: Use a combination of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor. Some good options include Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, and Braeburn.
  • Don't peel the apples: The skins of the apples add color and flavor to the wassail. Just be sure to wash them well before using.
  • Use fresh spices: Ground spices will lose their flavor over time. For the best results, use freshly ground spices whenever possible.
  • Simmer the wassail for at least 2 hours: This will allow the flavors to meld and the wassail to develop a rich, complex flavor.
  • Serve the wassail warm: Wassail is best enjoyed warm, so be sure to reheat it before serving.

Conclusion:

Slow Cooker Hot Spiced Apple Cider Wassail is a delicious and festive holiday beverage that is perfect for parties. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like your wassail sweet, tart, or spicy, there is a recipe out there for you. So gather your ingredients, grab your slow cooker, and get ready to enjoy this delicious holiday treat!
