Tips:

  • Choose the right beef: Chuck roast, brisket, and short ribs are all good choices for beef stew. These cuts of meat are tough, but they become tender when cooked slowly in liquid.
  • Brown the beef before cooking: Browning the beef in a hot skillet before adding it to the slow cooker helps to develop flavor and prevent the meat from becoming dry.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Don't be afraid to experiment with different vegetables in your beef stew. Some good options include carrots, potatoes, celery, onions, and peas.
  • Add some herbs and spices: Herbs and spices can help to add flavor to your beef stew. Some good options include thyme, rosemary, bay leaves, and garlic powder.
  • Cook the stew on low for 8-10 hours: This will allow the meat to become tender and the vegetables to cook through.
  • Serve the stew with crusty bread or mashed potatoes: This will help to soak up the delicious broth.
