Big Game Salsa Dip image

Great make-ahead-of-the-game dip! Cheesy (with some surprises), and served with tortilla chips. Keep hot in a slow cooker to last all afternoon and free yourself to watch the game. Always disappears quickly! Can be served in individual dip bowls with tortilla chips, or over a handful of chips in a bowl.

FRESH SALSA DIP

Fresh Salsa Dip image

I grew up in Southern California, so Mexican food has always been one of my favorites. This salsa is extremely mild, so it's a good choice if you're trying Mexican food for the first time. It's also tasty over baked whitefish or sole.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, flavorful tomatoes: This is the most important ingredient in salsa, so make sure you use the best quality tomatoes you can find. Look for tomatoes that are deep red and have a slightly sweet smell.
  • Use a variety of tomatoes: Don't be afraid to mix and match different types of tomatoes, such as Roma, cherry, or heirloom tomatoes. This will give your salsa a more complex flavor.
  • Roast your tomatoes: Roasting tomatoes intensifies their flavor and sweetness. If you have the time, roast your tomatoes before making salsa.
  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs, such as cilantro, basil, and oregano, add a lot of flavor to salsa. Use them sparingly, as they can easily overpower the other ingredients.
  • Add some heat: If you like spicy salsa, add some chopped jalapeños or serrano peppers. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili powder.
  • Let your salsa rest: After you make your salsa, let it rest for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together and develop.

Conclusion:

Salsa is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used in a variety of dishes. It's perfect for dipping tortilla chips, tacos, burritos, and enchiladas. It can also be used as a marinade for chicken, fish, or shrimp. With so many different recipes to choose from, you're sure to find a salsa that you love.
