SOUTHERN BAKED HAM

Southern Baked Ham image

This is the ham I use for the big holidays. Everyone looks foreword to it. My secret is that it's so easy. I pour the extra sauce in a small dish and use it for the ham--or my favorite is to pour it on homemade mashed potatoes. It's a VERY sweet sauce!

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Ham: Select a high-quality, fully cooked ham for the best results. Look for a ham that is evenly shaped and has a nice, pink color.
  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to the temperature specified in the recipe before placing the ham inside. This helps to ensure that the ham cooks evenly throughout.
  • Glaze the Ham: Baste the ham with a glaze made from your favorite ingredients. This will help to keep the ham moist and add flavor.
  • Use a Meat Thermometer: To ensure that the ham is cooked to perfection, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. The ham is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 140°F (60°C) for a fully cooked ham, or 160°F (71°C) for a spiral-cut ham.
  • Let the Ham Rest: Once the ham is cooked, let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more tender and flavorful ham.
