Tamari soy sauce is similar to regular soy sauce but is slightly thicker and has a richer flavor. It is available at most grocery stores. Besides being the perfect condiment for Broiled Black-Pepper Tofu, this sauce makes a nice addition to Soba Noodles with Vegetables and Mint -- just drizzle a little bit on top.

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 c soy sauce
1/4 c fresh lemon juice
2 Tbsp mirin (sweet japanese rice wine)
2 Tbsp water
1 Tbsp dried bonito shavings (katsuo-bushi)

Steps:

  • 1. Combine soy sauce, lemon juice, mirin, 2 tablespoons water and bonito in small bowl. Let stand 30 minutes. Strain sauce through fine strainer; discard bonito shavings. (Can be made 4 hours ahead. Cover and let stand at room temperature.)

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher the ingredients, the better the sauce will taste. Fresh lemon juice is essential for a bright, citrusy flavor.
  • Adjust the consistency to your liking: If you want a thinner sauce, add more liquid. For a thicker sauce, reduce the liquid or add a cornstarch slurry.
  • Serve immediately or store for later: The sauce can be served immediately or stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. If storing, be sure to whisk it well before serving.
  • Experiment with different flavors: You can add other ingredients to the sauce to create different flavor variations. Try adding garlic, ginger, honey, or sesame seeds.

Conclusion:

Soy lemon dipping sauce is a versatile and flavorful sauce that can be used with a variety of dishes. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your liking. Whether you are looking for a light and refreshing sauce for your next salad or a flavorful dipping sauce for your favorite appetizers, soy lemon dipping sauce is a great option.
