Categories     Chicken

Time 25m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 teaspoons sesame oil
1 tablespoon shredded ginger
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 cup Chinese wine or 1/2 cup dry sherry
2 star anise
1 cinnamon stick
4 chicken breast fillets

Steps:

  • Place the sesame oil, ginger, soy sauce, sugar, Chinese wine, star anise and cinamon stick in a frying pan over a medium-low heat and bring to a simmer.
  • Add the chicken and cook for 6-7 minutes each side or until cooked through.
  • Serve on plates with the sauce from the pan, with steamed greens and rice.

Tips:

  • Choose the right chicken: For this recipe, bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs or drumsticks are best. They will stay moist and flavorful during the cooking process.
  • Use a good quality soy sauce: The soy sauce is the key ingredient in this dish, so it's important to use a good quality one. Look for a soy sauce that is naturally brewed and has a deep, rich flavor.
  • Simmer the chicken low and slow: Simmering the chicken over low heat for a long period of time allows the flavors to develop and the chicken to become fall-off-the-bone tender.
  • Don't overcook the chicken: Overcooked chicken will be dry and tough. Cook the chicken until it is cooked through but still moist and juicy.
  • Serve with rice: Soy simmered chicken is traditionally served with rice. The rice helps to soak up the delicious sauce.

Conclusion:

Soy simmered chicken is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is also a great dish for entertaining, as it can be made ahead of time and reheated when you are ready to serve. So next time you are looking for a flavorful and satisfying chicken dish, give soy simmered chicken a try. You won't be disappointed!
