Yield Makes 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 1/4 cups water
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
2 tablespoons chopped peeled fresh ginger
16 whole cloves
16 whole allspice
1 vanilla bean, chopped
1 tea bag (preferably Earl Grey)
1 750-ml bottle dry red wine
1/4 cup dark rum
Crushed ice (if serving punch chilled)

Steps:

  • Combine water, honey, sugar, ginger, cloves, allspice and vanilla bean in heavy large saucepan. Bring mixture to boil over medium-high heat, stirring until honey and sugar dissolve. Boil 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Add tea bag; let steep 5 minutes.
  • Strain syrup into bowl. Add wine and rum. If serving cold, refrigerate until chilled. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)
  • If serving cold, fill 6 glasses with crushed ice. Ladle punch into glasses. If serving hot, bring to simmer in medium saucepan. Pour punch into cups.

Tips:

  • Choose the right tea. Black tea is the traditional choice for spiced tea punch, but you can also use green tea, white tea, or oolong tea. If you're using black tea, choose a variety that is strong and flavorful, such as Assam or Darjeeling.
  • Use fresh spices. Whole spices (like cinnamon sticks or cloves) will give your punch a more intense flavor than ground spices. If you're using whole spices, be sure to toast them in a dry skillet before adding them to the punch.
  • Sweeten to taste. The amount of sugar or honey you add to your punch will depend on your personal preference. If you're using fruit juice, you may not need to add any additional sweetener.
  • Garnish with citrus. A slice of orange or lemon will add a pop of color and flavor to your punch. You can also use a cinnamon stick or star anise for a more festive touch.
  • Serve chilled. Spiced tea punch is best served chilled. You can make it ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Spiced tea punch is a delicious and refreshing beverage that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own personal taste. With a little creativity, you can create a spiced tea punch that will be the hit of your next party.
