One time I accidentally bought hot Italian sausage, but wanted to find a way to use it anyway. I tossed it in the slow cooker with mushrooms, tomatoes and wine, which helped to mellow out the heat. Now I buy the hot stuff on purpose! -Judy Batson, Tampa, Florida

Tips:

  • Use a good quality sausage: The sausage is the star of the show in this dish, so it's important to use a good quality one. Look for a sausage that is made with fresh, flavorful meat and has a good balance of spices.
  • Cook the sausage over medium heat: This will help to prevent the sausage from drying out. Use a large skillet and make sure that the sausage is evenly browned on all sides.
  • Use a flavorful sauce: The sauce is another important component of this dish. You can use a simple tomato sauce or a more complex sauce that includes herbs, spices, and vegetables. If you're short on time, you can also use a jarred sauce.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: This means that the pasta should be cooked until it is still slightly firm to the bite. This will help to prevent the pasta from becoming mushy when it is added to the sauce.
  • Top with grated Parmesan cheese: Parmesan cheese is a classic topping for pasta dishes. It adds a salty, nutty flavor that complements the other flavors in the dish.
