Tips:

  • For the best results, use a good quality steak. Look for one that is well-marbled and has a deep red color.
  • If you don't have a meat mallet, you can use a rolling pin or even a heavy skillet to pound the steak thin.
  • Be sure to season the steak well with salt and pepper before cooking. This will help to enhance the flavor of the meat.
  • Cook the steak over medium-high heat until it reaches your desired doneness. For a medium-rare steak, cook for about 3 minutes per side.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the steak. This will cause the meat to steam instead of sear.
  • Once the steak is cooked, remove it from the pan and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  • For the mushroom sauce, use a variety of mushrooms. This will give the sauce a more complex flavor.
  • Be sure to cook the mushrooms until they are soft and browned.
  • Add the sour cream and Worcestershire sauce to the mushroom sauce at the end of cooking. This will help to prevent the sour cream from curdling.
  • Serve the steak mushroom stroganoff over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
