Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Combine flour, powdered sugar, nuts, and salt for base in a large bowl. Add butter and cut in with a pastry blender until mixture resembles cornmeal.
- Transfer mixture to a 12x18-inch baking sheet and flatten with the palm of your hand into an even layer. You do not need to butter the pan; the dough has enough butter in it so it will not stick.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool for 15 minutes. Leave oven on.
- Meanwhile, combine 1 cup flour and sugar for topping in a bowl. Add butter and cut in with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; you do not want big clumps of butter.
- Spread jam over the cooled base layer, then sprinkle on the topping mixture. Return to the oven and bake until topping is golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes.
- Let cool for 15 minutes before cutting into 24 bars.

Steps:
- In a medium bowl, sift together dry ingredients.
- Stir in oats and brown sugar.
- Cut butter into this mixture until crumbly; pat 2/3 of crumbs in an 11x7x1 1/2 inch baking dish; spread with preserves; top with remaining crumb mixture.
- Bake at 375°F for 35 minutes.
- Cool.
- Cut into small squares (makes approximately 2 1/2 dozen).
Tips:
- Choose firm, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and texture.
- Hull the strawberries before slicing them to prevent the core from getting into the jam.
- Use a large pot to make the jam, as it will bubble up and foam during the cooking process.
- Stir the jam constantly to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot and burning.
- Test the jam for doneness by dropping a small amount onto a cold plate. If it wrinkles when you push it with your finger, it is ready.
- Store the jam in a clean, airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Conclusion:
Strawberry jam squares are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are also a great way to use up fresh strawberries when they are in season. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make your own strawberry jam squares at home.
