ITALIAN MARGARITA

This Italian Margarita is a smooth, refreshing twist on classic margaritas made with fresh lemon juice and lime juice (no sour mix!), tequila, and amaretto. Simple, refreshing and perfect for parties! Make one or a pitcher for a crowd.

Provided by Erin Clarke / Well Plated

Categories     Drinks

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 ounces tequila (about 3 tablespoons)
1 ounce amaretto liqueur (about 2 tablespoons)
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 1/2 small lemon)
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice (about 1 small lime)
Ice
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon sugar
Lemon wedge

Steps:

  • Rim the glass: On a small plate, mix together the sugar and salt. Rub a lemon wedge around the top edge of your glass to moisten it, then dip the glass into the sugar-salt mixture so that it sticks, tapping all the way around.
  • For one (or two) drinks: Fill a small cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila, amaretto, lemon juice, and lime juice. Tightly close and shake vigorously for at least 30 seconds (it's longer than you think). Strain into the rimmed glass. Enjoy immediately.
  • For a pitcher: In the bottom of a pitcher, stir together the tequila, amaretto, lemon juice, and lime juice (do not add ice to the pitcher). Serve immediately or place a piece of plastic wrap over the top of the pitcher and refrigerate for up to 4 hours. Shake just before serving.

SPICY ITALIAN MARGARITA

Spicy Italian Margarita image

I love a margarita, especially a spicy one! But I am not a fan of all of the fake stuff in margarita mix. Homemade limoncello to the rescue! Here, I use it in two ways: to give the margarita a refreshing pop of real citrus flavor and to rim the glass for a salty edge! Of course, the chile paste is totally optional, but gives this drink a lovely warmth with every sip.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 15m

Yield 1 serving

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 ounces chilled limoncello or Homemade Limoncello (recipe follows), plus more for rimming the glass
2 ounces gold tequila
1/2 teaspoon Calabrian chile paste or jalapeno paste, optional
Kosher salt, for rimming the glass
1 ounce unsweetened lime seltzer, such as lime Spindrift
4 organic lemons, thoroughly washed and dried (see Cook's Note)
2 cups 80-proof vodka, such as Tito's
3/4 cup sugar or 3/4 cup store-bought simple syrup plus more, if desired

Steps:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the limoncello, tequila and chile paste, if using. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
  • Dip the rim of a rocks glass in a small splash of limoncello on a plate. Coat the rim with salt. Fill the glass with ice. Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass. Top with the seltzer and serve.
  • Zest just the yellow portion of the lemon peels with a rasp grater, avoiding any of the bitter white pith. You should have about 1/4 cup zest. Transfer the zest to a jar or other airtight container. Add the vodka, seal and shake to combine. Set aside in a cool, dark place for at least 2 weeks.
  • Strain the infused vodka through a fine-mesh sieve into a medium bowl. You may need to line the sieve with a coffee filter to catch all of the zest. Discard the zest (or dehydrate it and add to the salt for rimming the Spicy Italian Margarita).
  • If making your own simple syrup, combine the sugar with 3/4 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat and cook, whisking occasionally, until the sugar is fully dissolved, about 3 minutes. Set aside to cool completely.
  • Combine 3/4 cup of the simple syrup (or more, if desired) with the infused vodka. Store in an airtight bottle in the freezer for up to 6 months. Makes about 3 cups.

SUE'S ITALIAN MARGARITAS

Sue's Italian Margaritas image

This refreshing margarita has citrus undertones and is the perfect mix of sweet and sour. It's actually a little on the sweet side. Amaretto is a special touch and gives this typically Mexican drink a little Italian flair. If you use the ingredients Susan recommends, you'll have the perfect cocktail. Cheers!

Categories     Cocktails

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 ounce(s) José Cuervo tequila
2 ounce(s) triple sec
1 ounce(s) amaretto
2 ounce(s) Rose's lime juice
4 ounce(s) Mountain Dew
- margarita salt
- ice cubes

Steps:

  • HINT:#1 Do NOT use any other lime juice or soda other than listed. You will not get the awesome taste of my recipe. I tried it and it doesn't taste good. HINT:#2 The recipe above is enough for 2-3 drinks depending on the size of glass used. I usually double the recipe that way you will have more for refills.
  • Mix together the first 5 ingredients in a blender. (If you double the ingredients then pour out half into a pitcher or you will have a mess.)
  • Add a couple large handfuls or a little more of ice cubes and blend/crush.
  • You will have small chunks of ice which is good. (If you doubled the recipe then repeat the process.)
  • Place margarita salt onto a small plate and wet the rims of your glass with the margarita liquid or water.
  • Dip into the salt.
  • Pour your drink. Sit back and enjoy how easy it goes down.

Tips:

  • Use good quality ingredients. Fresh limes, a good tequila, and a quality orange liqueur will make all the difference in the taste of your margarita.
  • Don't overshake the margarita. Over-shaking will dilute the drink and make it watery.
  • Serve the margarita immediately. Margaritas are best enjoyed fresh, so don't let them sit around for too long before serving.
  • Get creative with your garnishes. A classic margarita is garnished with a lime wedge, but you can also try other garnishes like salt, chili powder, or a sprig of mint.
  • Make a big batch. Margaritas are perfect for parties and gatherings, so make a big batch so everyone can enjoy them.

Conclusion:

The Italian margarita is a delicious and refreshing cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. Whether you like your margaritas sweet, sour, or somewhere in between, there is an Italian margarita recipe out there for you. So next time you're looking for a refreshing cocktail, give the Italian margarita a try.
