¼ cup olive oil
⅓ cup loosely packed basil leaves, very thinly sliced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh savory
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
1 clove garlic, minced
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 ½ pounds roma (plum) tomatoes, diced
1 ½ tablespoons olive oil

Steps:

  • Mix 1/4 cup olive oil with basil, savory, thyme, garlic powder, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl. Stir tomatoes into the herb-seasoned oil. If desired, add 1 1/2 tablespoon more olive oil for richness. Let the topping stand for 1 hour to blend flavors before serving.

1 clove garlic, minced
1 loaf (1 lb.) French bread, cut in half lengthwise
1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
3 Tbsp. KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese
2 Tbsp. chopped pitted black olives
1 cup chopped plum tomatoes
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Mix oil and garlic; spread onto cut surfaces of bread. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool.
  • Mix cream cheese and Parmesan cheese with electric mixer on medium speed until blended. Stir in olives.
  • Spread toasted bread halves with cream cheese mixture; top with tomatoes. Cut into 24 slices to serve. Sprinkle with basil.

This is one of my family's favorite things that I make. Sage,Thyme, Onions,Tomatoes and Swiss cheese make this a very savory and tasty appetizer. It's very simple and can be tweaked with other additions if you like. I try to buy a few baguettes at a time so I can slice them all up and place them in zip lock baggies and freeze.Then whenever I have tomatoes onions and cheese on hand, I can take out the bread,defrost, and put this quick appetizer together in a matter of minutes.

1 baguette, sliced into 1/2 inch rounds
3 -4 roma tomatoes, sliced into rounds (enough for the rounds)
1 onion, sliced into rings
thyme
swiss cheese cut into small rectangular pieces that will fit the French baguette
sage leaf
olive oil
salt
pepper

Steps:

  • Place your sliced onions into a skillet with a little bit of olive oil, salt, pepper and saute them until they are nicely caramelized. Set them aside when done.
  • Arrange your sliced baguette's onto a baking sheet.
