MY FAVORITE TOSSED SALAD

My Favorite Tossed Salad image

I came up with this combination as a teen and it has always been my favorite. You can use any salad dressing of your choice and top with boiled eggs, sunflower seeds, cheese, croutons, bacon bits or whatever you choose. My preference with this one...just serve it like it is. The juices from the tomatoes are all the dressing I require! It is very colorful, light and refreshing! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Time 1h15m

Yield 6 cups, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
1 medium apple, diced
1 cup green seedless grape, halved
1/2 cup thinly sliced celery
1/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup strawberry yogurt
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
lettuce

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the strawberries, apple, grapes, celery, and raisins.
  • Stir in the yogurt.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least one hour.
  • Add the sunflower seeds and toss.
  • Serve atop a bed of lettuce, if desired.

Tips:

  • Choose the right sunflower seeds: Raw, unsalted sunflower seeds are best for this salad. You can also use roasted sunflower seeds, but they will have a stronger flavor.
  • Toast the sunflower seeds: Toasting the sunflower seeds brings out their flavor and makes them more crunchy. To toast the sunflower seeds, spread them on a baking sheet and bake them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  • Use fresh, seasonal vegetables: The best sunflower tossed salads are made with fresh, seasonal vegetables. Some good choices for vegetables to include in your salad are baby spinach, arugula, kale, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and radishes.
  • Make your own dressing: Store-bought dressings are often high in sugar and unhealthy fats. It is much healthier to make your own dressing using simple, fresh ingredients. A good dressing for a sunflower tossed salad is a vinaigrette made with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, and honey.
  • Add some protein: If you want to make your salad more filling, you can add some protein. Some good options for protein to add to your salad are grilled chicken, salmon, shrimp, tofu, or beans.

Conclusion:

A sunflower tossed salad is a healthy and delicious way to enjoy a variety of fresh vegetables. It is also a great way to get your daily dose of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. By following the tips above, you can make a sunflower tossed salad that is both delicious and nutritious.
