Steps:
- Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper. Measure baking soda and vanilla extract into separate small bowls; set aside.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large saucepan; add popcorn, cover, and cook, shaking often, until fully popped, about 5 minutes. Transfer popcorn to a large roasting pan using a strainer or your hands, leaving unpopped kernels in the saucepan. Distribute chopped licorice and broken pretzels evenly over popcorn.
- Bring the brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, and cream of tartar to a boil in a heavy pot, stirring constantly. Place a candy thermometer into the caramel mixture, and continue boiling, stirring constantly, until mixture reaches 265 degrees F (129 degrees C), about 10 minutes.
- Remove caramel from heat. Stir vanilla and baking soda into the caramel; it will foam and rise slightly. Pour hot caramel over popcorn mixture, stirring gently to coat evenly. Spread the popcorn mixture loosely onto the prepared baking sheets. Season to taste with sea salt; set aside to cool, about 20 minutes.
- Break popcorn mixture into chunks. Store in airtight bags or containers.

Tips:
- Use high-quality popcorn kernels: Fresh, non-GMO popcorn kernels will yield the best results.
- Choose the right oil: High-smoke point oils like grapeseed, canola, or coconut oil are best for popping popcorn.
- Don't overcrowd the pot: Use just enough kernels to cover the bottom of the pot in a single layer.
- Shake the pot constantly: This will help distribute the heat evenly and prevent the popcorn from burning.
- Listen for the popping to slow down: Once the popping slows to a few seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat.
- Season immediately: While the popcorn is still hot, toss it with your favorite seasonings. For sweet and salty popcorn, use a combination of sugar, salt, and melted butter.
- Let the popcorn cool completely: This will help it to crisp up.
- Store in an airtight container: Popcorn will keep for up to a week in an airtight container at room temperature.
Conclusion:
Sweet and salty popcorn is a delicious and easy-to-make snack that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a batch of popcorn that is perfectly crispy, sweet, and salty. Whether you're looking for a quick snack or a party-perfect treat, sweet and salty popcorn is sure to hit the spot.
