Tips:

  • For the creamiest casserole, use russet potatoes. They have a high starch content that will help to thicken the casserole.
  • If you don't have a microwave, you can cook the sweet potatoes in a pot of boiling water for about 20 minutes, or until they are tender.
  • Be careful not to overcook the sweet potatoes, or they will become mushy.
  • To make the praline topping, use a heavy saucepan so that the sugar doesn't burn.
  • Stir the praline topping constantly so that it doesn't crystallize.
  • If you don't have brown sugar, you can substitute granulated sugar and add a tablespoon of molasses.
  • Serve the sweet potato casserole warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Sweet potato casserole is a classic Thanksgiving dish that is sure to please everyone at the table. It's easy to make and can be prepared ahead of time, making it a great option for busy hosts. The praline topping adds a delicious crunch and sweetness to the casserole. This recipe is sure to become a new family favorite.
