Tips:

  • Use room temperature ingredients: This will help your cake batter mix together more smoothly and evenly, resulting in a more consistent cake texture.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy: This will help to incorporate air into the batter, resulting in a lighter, more tender cake.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition: This will help to prevent the batter from curdling.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined: Overmixing can result in a tough, dense cake.
  • Divide the batter in half and add different flavorings to each half: This will create a fun and delicious swirled cake.
  • Bake the cake at the correct temperature and for the correct amount of time: Underbaking will result in a gooey cake, while overbaking will result in a dry cake.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting: This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.
