THICK AND SOFT SUGAR COOKIES RECIPE - (4.4/5)

Provided by Caryl

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
3 tsp. vanilla
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
5 1/2 cups flour

Steps:

  • In mixer, cream butter and sugar, and then add eggs and vanilla. Add sour cream. Combine salt, soda, and flour, and add to mixture. Roll out on floured surface to about 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick. Use a spatula to carefully slide under each cookie and place onto greased (with Pam) parchment-lined cookie sheets. Bake at 375 for 7-8 minutes. THEY WILL NOT LOOK DONE! But don't give in to your temptation to cook "just a little bit longer" or you will get crunchy cookies instead of soft, pillow-like cookies. They are still very pale and have no browning anywhere. If you have a golden brown color along the edges then you have baked them too long. Wait about 5 minutes and then transfer carefully to a cooling rack. If you wait longer they will get soggy on the bottom and sometimes get stuck to the parchment paper. Once they are cooled they are ready for frosting.

Tips:

Chill the Dough Before Baking: Chilling the dough will make it easier to handle and will help the cookies hold their shape better in the oven.

Use Room Temperature Butter: Room temperature butter will cream together with the sugar more easily, resulting in a smoother batter.

Cream the Butter and Sugar Together Until Light and Fluffy: This will help to incorporate air into the batter, making the cookies light and airy.

Don't Overmix the Batter: Overmixing the batter will make the cookies tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.

Line the Baking Sheet with Parchment Paper: This will prevent the cookies from sticking to the pan.

Bake the Cookies Until the Edges Are Just Starting to Turn Golden Brown: Overbaking the cookies will make them dry and crumbly.

Conclusion:

With these tips in mind, you'll be sure to bake up a batch of thick, soft, and chewy sugar cookies that everyone will love. These cookies are perfect for any occasion, whether you're hosting a party, enjoying a quiet evening at home, or simply craving a sweet treat. So next time you're in the mood for something delicious, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
