TANGY BARBECUED BEEF SANDWICHES

Tangy Barbecued Beef Sandwiches image

Every year for our church ice cream social, we'd fill six roaster ovens with these ingredients and let them simmer all day. Boy, did that barbecue smell good. If you want a meal that's ready to eat in 30 minutes, but can keep on the stove for late arrivals, this is the one. -Janet Sipes, Monmouth, Illinois

BEEF CHUCK SLOW COOKED BBQ BARBEQUE TING-TOWN MINNESOTA

Beef Chuck Slow Cooked BBQ Barbeque Ting-Town Minnesota image

We cannot stop eating this! Our lives will not be the same! Found on Allrecipes: This recipe is adapted from a famous sandwich that was served at Ting-Town, a drive-in closed since the 1970's, in the Iron Range or Arrowhead region of northeastern Minnesota. Serving the beef slathered on open face hamburger buns makes the dish extra authentic. We used an ultra spicy, high quality bbq sauce. I definitely recommend adding some "heat" (cayenne, tabasco, red pepper flakes, chipotle, etc) if you like spice. I also added about 2-3 tablespoons cornstarch into the cold sauce ingredients at the onset based on many All Recipe reviews that cooks were thickening the sauce after the cooking. This worked out great for me. It was still somewhat soupy (but they are supposed to be served open-faced and messy). If you want them to be neat and between the bun, just thicken it to your liking, or cook it with more beef. I slow-cooked in dutch oven in the oven. Times/servings/yields are estimates.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: For a tender and flavorful sandwich, choose a well-marbled cut of beef, such as chuck roast or brisket. You can also use a less expensive cut, such as flank steak, but you may need to cook it for a longer period of time.
  • Marinate the beef: Marinating the beef helps to tenderize it and add flavor. You can use a simple marinade made with olive oil, garlic, and herbs, or you can try a more complex marinade with ingredients like soy sauce, brown sugar, and spices.
  • Cook the beef slowly: Low and slow cooking is the best way to achieve tender and juicy barbecue beef. You can cook the beef in a smoker, a slow cooker, or even in your oven at a low temperature.
  • Use a good quality barbecue sauce: The barbecue sauce is what really makes a barbecue sandwich special. Choose a sauce that is thick and flavorful, and that has a good balance of sweet, sour, and smoky flavors.
  • Serve the sandwich on a sturdy bun: The bun is the foundation of a good barbecue sandwich, so make sure it's sturdy enough to hold up to the beef and sauce. A kaiser roll or a hoagie roll are both good choices.

Conclusion:

Making a Ting Town Barbecue Beef Sandwich is a simple process, but it does take some time and effort. However, the results are well worth it. A Ting Town Barbecue Beef Sandwich is a delicious and satisfying meal that is perfect for any occasion.
