Steps:

  • Beat the egg first, them mix together all the ingredients except the butter. Mix together very well.

TASTY TUNA PATTIES

Tasty Tuna Patties image

If you're ever pressed for time, start with a couple cans of tuna and you'll have a delicious patty in no time that you can serve a number of different ways. Add them to buns with your favorite toppings for sandwiches, serve them alongside a fresh salad, or make smaller versions of them and serve them as appetizers with tartar sauce on the side. There are a lot of great flavor elements in these easy and versatile patties, but the quantities are small so the flavor still comes out pretty mild. If you're looking for a stronger flavor, increase quantities as you like!

Time 20m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 (5 ounce) cans tuna in water, drained
2 large eggs
¾ cup dry bread crumbs
1 ½ tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 ½ tablespoons finely diced celery
½ teaspoon lemon juice
½ teaspoon seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay®)
½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
⅛ teaspoon dried dill weed
1 tablespoon oil, divided, or as needed

Steps:

  • Combine tuna, eggs, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, celery, lemon juice, seafood seasoning, mustard, pepper, and dill in a bowl; stir gently until fully and evenly combined. Shape mixture into 4 patties.
  • Heat oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. When oil is hot, gently lay 2 tuna patties into the skillet. Don't over crowd - only add as many patties as comfortably fit with room to flip them.
  • Cook tuna patties until golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes per side, adjusting the heat as needed if they're cooking too quickly. Repeat with remaining patties, adding remaining oil as needed.

ASIAN-INSPIRED TUNA CAKES

Asian-Inspired Tuna Cakes image

Found this recipe in "The Metro St. Louis Guide to Smart Parenting" as a kid-friendly healthy recipe. Very simple and very tasty! The sauce rEALLY makes the recipe! The soy and panko give a nice twist to the familiar boring tuna cakes of yesteryear. Can be used as a main dish or as an appetizer. NOTE: Due to the concensus of reviewers, I have decreased the original 1/4 cup soy sauce to 1.5 tablespoons.

Time 40m

Yield 1 cake, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 (6 ounce) can tuna in water, drained
1 1/2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 teaspoon pepper (or more to taste)
1/2 small white onion, minced
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon lemon pepper
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 dashes Tabasco sauce
2 tablespoons sesame oil

Steps:

  • Beat eggs and then combine with tuna, soy sauce, pepper, onion, panko and melted butter.
  • Form into patties (make small ones, so everyone gets 2 for a meal) and chill in refrigerator for 20 minues.
  • In the meanwhile, make your dipping sauce. Mix the mayo, garlic powder, lemon juice, lemon pepper and Tabasco sauce (feel free to add more as you like).
  • Place dipping sauce in a sandwich size Ziplock baggie.
  • Heat oil in large pan.
  • Cook tuna cakes for approx 4 minutes per side, or until golden brown, turning cakes only once to get good color.
  • When browned on each side, remove and place on a paper towel to drain off excess oil.
  • Take baggie with the dipping sauce and barely snip off one of the corners of the baggie. Drizzle the sauce over the top of each cake.

Tips:

  • Choose the right tuna: Use fresh or frozen tuna steaks or loins for the best flavor and texture. If using canned tuna, choose tuna packed in water and drained.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs: Panko breadcrumbs are lighter and airier than regular breadcrumbs, and they help to keep the tuna patties moist and tender.
  • Add moisture: If the tuna mixture seems too dry, add a little mayonnaise, sour cream, or yogurt to help bind the ingredients together.
  • Season to taste: Don't be afraid to add your own favorite seasonings to the tuna mixture. Some popular options include lemon zest, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  • Cook gently: Tuna patties are delicate, so cook them over medium heat until they are just cooked through. Overcooking will make them dry and tough.
  • Serve immediately: Tuna patties are best served immediately after cooking. They can be served with a variety of sides, such as mashed potatoes, rice, or salad.

Conclusion:

Tuna patties are a quick and easy meal that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are a good source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, and they can be customized to suit your own taste preferences. By following these tips, you can make delicious and healthy tuna patties that your family and friends will love.
