TYROPITA (CHEESE PIE)
Steps:
- Mash the feta cheese with a fork. Add the mozzarella cheese, the milk, butter, dillweed or mint, eggs and pepper. Butter a bakinh pan and line it with half the phyllo dough, brushing each sheet with melted butter as it is added. Spread the cheese mixture over this and cover with the rest of the dough, buttering in the same way. Bake the cheese pie in a moderate oven for about one hour.
Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, flavorful ingredients will make a big difference in the taste of your tyropita. Look for high-quality feta cheese, fresh eggs, and flaky phyllo dough.
- Don't overwork the dough: Overworking the dough will make it tough. Be gentle when handling it, and work it just enough to bring it together.
- Chill the dough before baking: Chilling the dough will help it hold its shape better and prevent it from shrinking in the oven.
- Brush the phyllo dough with melted butter: This will help the layers of dough stick together and create a golden brown crust.
- Bake the tyropita until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown: The baking time will vary depending on the size and shape of your tyropita, so keep an eye on it and adjust the time as needed.
