This may not be what some people would consider as "Goulash" but it is the name my mom gave this when I was a child. Delicious and brings back wonderful memories. Hope you enjoy it too.

1 medium onion (chopped)
1 minced garlic clove (I actually use 2)

  • Add chopped onion and garlic and continue frying until beef is completely cooked.
  • Add the tomatoes and parmesan cheese and stir completely.

  • When macaroni is done, just mix it all together and serve.
  • Have your spouse clean up the mess cuz really, who needs the grief.

Time 1h20m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 pounds lean ground beef
2 large yellow onions, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
3 cups water
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons dried Italian herb seasoning
3 bay leaves
1 tablespoon seasoned salt, or to taste
2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni

Steps:

  • Cook and stir the ground beef in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, breaking the meat up as it cooks, until the meat is no longer pink and has started to brown, about 10 minutes. Skim off excess fat, and stir in the onions and garlic. Cook and stir the meat mixture until the onions are translucent, about 10 more minutes.
  • Stir water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, soy sauce, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, and seasoned salt into the meat mixture and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir macaroni into the mixture, cover, and simmer over low heat until the pasta is tender, about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, discard bay leaves, and serve.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients. The better the ingredients, the better the goulash will taste. Look for fresh ground beef, macaroni that is cooked al dente, and a flavorful tomato sauce.
  • Brown the beef well. This will help to develop the flavor of the goulash. Cook the beef over medium-high heat until it is browned all over.
  • Don't overcook the macaroni. Macaroni that is overcooked will become mushy and ruin the texture of the goulash. Cook the macaroni according to the package directions, or until it is al dente.
  • Use a flavorful tomato sauce. The tomato sauce is the base of the goulash, so it is important to use one that is flavorful and well-seasoned. You can use a store-bought tomato sauce, or you can make your own.
  • Season the goulash to taste. Add salt, pepper, and other spices to taste. You can also add other ingredients, such as diced carrots, celery, or onions, to the goulash.

Conclusion:

Hamburger macaroni goulash is a simple and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is a hearty and flavorful dish that is sure to please everyone at the table. With a few simple tips, you can make a hamburger macaroni goulash that is even better than the classic recipe.
